Hellooooo!

Yesterday we made two conclusive achievements:

1. Mike (Johnson) completed our first master

2. Jay finally won a game of darts against Michael

Back to work on Monday for all the artwork, paperwork, e.t.c that make it one step further to being donedonedone!

Mike (Johnson)'s cat, Tilly, joined us for a listen yesterday...

She promptly left when the fiddle kicked in.

Well! 

Today was our first day mixing the album - a long winded but exciting process as we're eventually getting to hear the tracks as final products now. 

But like any other day, this one started with the compulsory brew...

Mike (Johnson) has some very nice mugs that combine a large amounts of Jay's delights in life
(polka dots, cupcakes, tea ...)

A day of mixing meant a day of intense proof listening and picking out the levels that need tweaking before mastering...

NB. The lack of mandolin in Mike's hand leading him to mess with his locks

The tiring session left Mike either desperately hungry or mentally struggling...you decide...

We did, however, fit in a few games of darts at the end to recuperate our sanity in time for tomorrow. As expected, Mike got very good very quickly and won them all...

So, with a night of practising her aim for Jay and a night of playing with his mandolin instead of his hair for Mike; that is all until tomorrow!

Afternoooooooon!

After a few days sorting things and a gig last night with the wonderful Gary and Vera Aspey, this morning we fought the Liverpool traffic for Lucy's first session at 101 Records.

Everything sounds better with a bass ...

Today we pretty much finished all our (Jay and Mike) parts ready for a weekend of adding Lucy's wonderfulness which, we like to think, warrants a large glass of wine.

Oops...we missed an instrument.

Lots of singing done today ... 

Also completed one of Jay's favourite tracks and added the odd bits here and there...

Hoping to get any remaining tracks down tomorrow before we get Lucy up to the studio :)

Now, however, a well deserved brew and cake from Tesco.

Gooooooooood evening all.

And so commences our second week of recording! Today we got straight back into the swing of things and managed to get down Jay's vocals to two of the tracks, some fancy fiddle layering, a particular mandolin favourite and a quick splash of something new...

Note...the mandolin is on the floor.....

Now that we're done for the day, it's back to practice, artwork plans and making lists...

This week's a week off from recording giving us chance to go over parts, write some new bits in and work on the final product's artwork! For that reason, things might be a bit quiet on here for the next few days but we'll be sure to resume blogging when back in the studio next week so please don't forget to keep an eye out! We might even post an mid-week update on how things are coming along...

Good evening! Just back from our fourth day in the studio and things are certainly coming together!

After spending the morning adding some fiddle and mandolin tracks we got started on Jay's vocals ...

Once Jay had two solid takes down, Mike added some harmonies before we called it a day to get ready for our weekend of gigs.























Now, it's time to throw on a dress (or a shirt in Mike's case) and set off for the gorgeous Cartford Inn in Little Eccleston, Preston. :)
